Ealing Council Noise Team

Two members of the Ealing Council Noise Team attended a recent WARA meeting. They outlined their roles and how residents can report nuisance from their neighbours.

For loud music, the Council Officers have to witness the nuisance within a complainant’s property, in order to determine whether it is a Statutory Nuisance. It is not sufficient to just hear the disturbing noise in the street. If deemed necessary, the Council can issue an Abatement Notice under the Environmental Protection Act. If the nuisance persists, a Court Order can be obtained from a Magistrate to confiscate equipment.

Between 9 am and midnight, Monday to Friday, complaints about loud music can be reported on 020 8825 8111.

Up until 5 pm the call is likely to be answered by a person. After 5 pm there is an answering machine on which to leave a message. The Noise Team can access the messages remotely and regularly do so.

On Friday and Saturday nights the Party Patrol operates. They can be contacted between 11 pm and 4 am on 020 8825 5000.

The Team do not work during the daytime at weekends. Although an Officer can be made available at weekends should a particular nuisance persist.

The Pollution Team also deals with nuisance from house / car alarms, dogs barking, bonfires, building works and commercial odours. A nuisance must be reported before the Council can take any action.

Another method of dealing with disturbance from neighbours is to contact the Ealing Neighbour Dispute Mediation Service, which will help in achieving a resolution through discussion. This is an independent charitable organisation that is based at:

Greenford Community Centre, 170 Oldfield Lane South, Greenford, Middlesex, UB6 9JS. Tel: 020 8575 9500.
