News Update for March 2008

Horn Lane Pedestrian Crossing

Cllr. Barchuk asked Council Officers to contact TfL to set up a meeting to agree a timetable for the installation of this crossing. The meeting was held on 1st February 2008 at Perceval House. WARA were invited to send a representative to the meeting. Alan Cartwright attended on behalf of WARA.

The Public Notice for the Horn Lane crossing appeared in the Ealing Gazette on 15th February 2008. Installation of the crossing is currently in progress and is expected to be completed and operational by May 2008. The location of the crossing has meant that the northbound 260 / 266 bus stop outside the parade of shops has been moved.

Orange Phone Mast, Noel Road

A meeting at the Town Hall was arranged for 15th January regarding this problem. However, the meeting did not take place as the planning officer did not respond in time. Cllr. Kumar is now trying to organise another meeting where all issues relating to the phone mast can be discussed. She has been told that it could possibly be challenged on amenity grounds, but what the specific grounds are still has to be established.

Planning Application: Gypsy Corner Development Site

Fairview New Homes Ltd has submitted a Planning Application (P/2007/5195) for two further mixed-use tower blocks on the site close to North Acton station. One block will be 11 storeys high and the other 12 storeys. Both will include retail (ground floor), commercial and residential units (Block F: 61 units and Block G: 51 units). Further details can be obtained from Planning Services at Perceval House. Alex Jackson (Team Leader) is the case officer for this application.

Gypsy Corner CPZ Extension

Implementation work (road marking and signage) has commenced. The extended zone will become operational on 1st April. Those roads that are not included will be re-consulted in the year 2008/9

Alliance Road Width Restriction

Cllr. Barchuk has informed us that his aim is to have a permanent CCTV installed at Alliance Road and the gate secured, but a special lock still needs to be produced. The cost of a camera is about £15,000. On a show of hands, the vast majority of residents present were in favour of the Council spending this money.

Advertising Tower, Western Avenue

Residents on the Western Avenue are concerned about the construction of a huge illuminated advertising tower on land next to where the Central Line crosses the A40. Planning Enforcement are looking into the matter, and will investigate whether correct procedures have been followed.
