TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

At the most recent Acton Area Committee [1] meeting, held on 25th March 2004, updates on a number of traffic management issues were presented. Two of the issues are relevant to the West Acton area.

20mph Zone and the possible closure of Alliance Road

Consultation was carried out earlier this year when by a leaflet drop residents were invited to send their views to the London Borough of Ealing (LBE). The outcome of this exercise was that, of the residents who replied, 74% were in favour of a 20mph zone.

For Alliance Road, 65% were in favour of a width restriction (single lane) or a complete closure. The split between a width restriction and a total closure was not given.

Based on the results of the consultation the Council Members have authorised Officers to proceed with the detail design and implementation of the proposals for the 20mph zone and related traffic management measures. No date has been set for when the design will be available for review.

Horn Lane/Noel Road Pelican Crossing

It is the intention that there will be a Pelican Crossing across Horn Lane situated at the south side of the Noel Road junction. Council Officers are reviewing a preliminary design layout. The detail design of a final scheme will incorporate Stop and Shop proposals at the nearby parade of shops. It was stated at the meeting that the design would be completed this Spring, but no definite date was given.

[1] The Acton Area Committee is a forum where Local Councillors and Council Officers provide information on issues that concern Acton residents. The meetings are held every 2-3 months in the hall on the first floor of Acton Town Hall. The agenda is set in advance of the meeting and only items on the agenda can be discussed. Planning issues are not included, as Councillors who sit on the Planning Committee attend the meeting and they cannot get involved in such issues before they are heard by the Planning Committee.

New items for the agenda must be submitted to the Acton Area Committee Administrator at least two weeks before a meeting. Any notices of forthcoming meetings are displayed on local notice boards, e.g. at North Acton Playing Fields on the corner of Eastfields Road and Noel Road.

It is suggested that concerns of West Acton residents are reported to the Residents Association who will then endeavour to present the matter either at an Area Committee meeting or contact the appropriate LBE department directly.
